College of Business and Economics

This CBE report reflects the counter-disruptive strategy of its School of Accounting (SoA), the Johannesburg Business School (JBS), the School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems (SCiiS), the School of Economics (SoE), the School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy (SPMGPP), the School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH), and the academic governance force directed by the Deanery.

PERMANENT STAFF

Total 344 academic staff: 6% assistant lecturers; 42% lecturers; 33% senior lecturers; 10% associate professors; 8% professors; 53% of academic staff are women; 45% from designated groups; 14% internationally recruited academics, mostly from Africa.

SARCHI CHAIRS

Two SARChI Chairs, in the SoE and Department of Business Management were awarded within the CBE in 2018, as well as inaugural Community of Practice (CoP) funding from the National Research Foundation (NRF) of up to R7 million over an initial two-year period.

NRF-RATED RESEARCHERS AND POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWS

In 2018, the number of NRF-rated researchers increased by 3 to 17, while postdoctoral research fellow appointments increased from 10 to 35.
