FYE<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The first-year programme includes an integrated tutor system and a mentor programme with identified senior students; Visits to the High and Magistrate\u2019s Courts and the Constitutional Court; Moot Court activities; Talks by magistrates, judges and prosecutors.<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n TEACHING INNOVATION AND QUALITY CONTROL<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Student retention and monitoring supplemented with Blackboard Predict, an evidence-based, advanced student retention solution; Credit-bearing module on research methodology for final-year LLB students; Teaching and learning committees addressing teaching and learning issues, including 4IR, curriculum integration, decolonisation and priority modules management; LLB programme re-accredited by CHE; Three internal programme reviews.<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n NON-SUBSIDISED PROGRAMMES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Ten non-subsidised programmes ranging from short courses to certificates and prestigious diplomas, presented to the public, postgraduate students, civil servants, legal practitioners and alumni with specialised training in a variety of topics; Several programmes presented in three-year cycles, with 1 909 students enrolled and 1 450 students successfully completing them.; Over R23 million generated, resulting in a Faculty surplus of over R9m, of which R1m was utilised to fund Law Clinic operations.<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Several practising attorneys, advocates and auditors lectured, particularly, in non-subsidised programmes; Faculty lecturers coordinated and presentied Legal Education and Development (LEAD) projects of the Law Society of South Africa; The Faculty\u2019s relationship with the profession enables the securing of vacation work, job shadowing, bursaries and articles for top achievers; Prominent law firms formed part of FYE with inspiring talks, and attended, with others, the annual UJ Law Career Fair; Academic staff engage continuously with stakeholders and the community, presenting talks to attorneys, magistrates, auditors, public private enterprises, and cultural and religious organisations; Faculty members provide leadership and technical assistance inside and outside UJ and in both local and international arenas, in various capacities.<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n RESEARCH STRUCTURES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The Faculty maintains four active research centres: and hosts the NRF\u2019s Research Chair in International Law; Nine Law Library assistants were appointed, and training sessions were conducted for first-year students; The new Research Methodology course was introduced for final-year LLB students in four modules; Law librarians conducted 13 training sessions for 279 students, the Law Library Research Guide for Undergraduates was published, with all the guides regularly updated, and 1 459 titles added to the collection; electronic databases were purchased; Fourteen postgraduate subject-specific training sessions attended by 74 students, and The Law Library collaborated with the Faculty on a workshop, a lecture and a conference.<\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n
